It might be easy for you to set goals for yourself, both big and small, but if you don’t have motivation, it would be hard for you to actually accomplish those goals. There are several ways that you can build motivation within yourself. In this blog, I wanted to highlight 3 of those ways so that you can increase your motivation and be more productive throughout your career and life.

#1. Focus On Your Locus Of Control

In business and in life, some things will be in your control while others won’t. It can be easy to become discouraged and unmotivated when you let yourself feel weighed down by things that you can’t control. Instead, you should focus on the specific things that you’re able to control and change. It will be much easier to motivate yourself if your goals are based around things that you actually have control over.

#2. Take Action

This might seem counterintuitive but one of the most powerful ways to create motivation within yourself is to take action before you feel any motivation. Most people believe that you first need to find inspiration, which then builds motivation, which finally leads you to take action. In reality, the order of these 3 components is more circular than linear. If you take that first step, you will build confidence in yourself and your ability to accomplish your goals. You will feel inspired and this will naturally lead to you increasing your motivation. Taking one small step builds momentum for you to take even more steps. You will be motivated to push yourself further, once you’ve already started down the path to accomplishing your main goals. Just take that first step and watch your motivation soar.

#3. Find A Strong Reason Why You’re Pursuing Your Goals

If you’re striving to accomplish a specific goal because of outside pressure from your parents, partner or any other people or parts of society, it will be very easy for you to lose all motivation. On the other hand, if you’re working towards a goal that you, yourself, want to accomplish, you’ll have a much easier time staying consistent. Dig deep within yourself and find out why you want to accomplish your goals. If you have a strong reason to push yourself, you will be able to build and maintain motivation throughout your journey to success.

At some point, you’re bound to hit a wall. You might be faced with a particularly hard task or you might lose some confidence in your ability to accomplish your goals. As long as you expect to hit the wall and maintain a positive mindset, you can persevere and find the right way over that wall. If you have that strong reason why you’re working towards your goals, you will have a much easier time maintaining your motivation while being faced with countless difficult challenges.
